Best Wedding Venues in San Sebastián: Full Guide

Planning a destination wedding in San Sebastián? Discover ten of the region's best venues, from royal palaces and Belle Époque hotels to countryside wineries, a golf club and traditional Basque farmhouses.

San Sebastián has been hosting romance, royalty and impeccable taste for over 150 years. With La Concha Bay as a backdrop, Belle Époque architecture lining its streets, and Michelin-starred cuisine at every turn, it’s no surprise that couples from all over the world choose this city for their destination wedding.

But choosing where to say «I do,» and where to celebrate afterward, is one of the biggest decisions you’ll make. To help, here’s a closer look at ten of the best wedding venues in and around San Sebastián: four iconic buildings in the heart of the city, four countryside wineries, and two estates set in the hills nearby.

Palaces & Hotels Palacio de Miramar

Arguably the most romantic wedding venue in San Sebastián, Palacio de Miramar was built in 1893 for Queen María Cristina, who wanted a summer residence overlooking the bay. Designed by English architect Selden Wornum in the style of an English Queen Anne cottage, it stands in striking contrast to the Belle Époque buildings that define the rest of the city.

The gardens, laid out by Pierre Ducasse in 1889, roll gently down toward the cliffs, framing views of both La Concha and Ondarreta beaches at once. The palace can host ceremonies and receptions for up to 250 guests, making it just as suited to an intimate elopement as to a full celebration. Few venues anywhere in Europe combine this level of history, elevation and coastline in a single frame.

Hotel de Londres y de Inglaterra

The oldest hotel in San Sebastián, Hotel de Londres y de Inglaterra was built in 1865 on the site of a former palace where Queen Isabel II once stayed. For a century and a half it has watched over La Concha Bay, surviving wars, hosting monarchs, and quietly becoming one of the most photogenic getting-ready locations on the Basque coast.

Its high ceilings, soft natural light and uninterrupted sea views make it an exceptional setting for bridal preparations: the kind of light photographers actually look forward to. For couples planning a morning-to-evening celebration, it also works beautifully as a place for guests to stay, given its short walk to both the old town and Palacio de Miramar.

Countryside Estates

Abeletxe

Fifteen minutes from San Sebastián in Zizurkil, Abeletxe is a carefully restored 19th-century caserío, a traditional Basque farmhouse, set against the Aralar, Txindoki and Ernio mountains. Its wide terraces and chill-out garden are made for a long, relaxed welcome cocktail, and the estate can host up to 250 guests for ceremony, banquet and party. It’s been recognized with a Wedding Award as one of the best wedding venues in Gipuzkoa, and it’s easy to see why: few places combine rustic character with mountain views quite like it.

Hotel María Cristina

If Palacio de Miramar is San Sebastián’s most romantic address, Hotel María Cristina is its most glamorous. Opened in 1912 and named after the queen who was the first to cross its threshold, the hotel was designed by Charles Mewes, the same architect behind the Ritz in Madrid and Paris, and remains one of the finest examples of Belle Époque architecture in Spain.

Its Ibaia ballroom is the room most couples fall in love with: double-height ceilings, gilded Corinthian columns, and centenary bronze-and-crystal chandeliers. With five function rooms in total, the hotel can accommodate anything from an intimate dinner to a cocktail reception for 940 guests. Its history of hosting film stars during the San Sebastián International Film Festival, from Audrey Hepburn to Alfred Hitchcock, only adds to the occasion.

Hotel Luze

A more contemporary option, Hotel Luze sits at the summit of Monte Igeldo, just ten minutes from the city center, with sweeping views over the Bay of Biscay. The boutique hotel pairs classic elegance with modern design across its 42 rooms, several with private terraces and jacuzzis, and adds an infinity pool, gardens and the Michelin-recommended Itzuli restaurant to the mix. For couples who want San Sebastián’s sea views without the city’s historic weight, it’s one of the most striking settings around.

Bodega Katxiña

Set among the vineyards of Orio, just ten minutes from San Sebastián, Bodega Katxiña pairs a working txakoli winery with a 500 m² event hall for up to 100 guests. Large windows keep the vineyard views present throughout the celebration, while the garden makes an ideal spot for the ceremony and welcome drinks. Chef Iñaki Zendoia’s kitchen focuses on Basque seafood and grilled meats, paired, naturally, with the bodega’s own Katxiña txakoli.

Wineries & Vineyard Venues

For couples who picture their wedding surrounded by vineyards and green hills rather than city streets, Gipuzkoa’s countryside, all within 10 to 20 minutes of San Sebastián, offers some of the region’s most distinctive venues.

Hika Bodega

In Villabona, Hika Bodega combines a modern, design-forward winery with one of Gipuzkoa’s most scenic rural settings. Its halls and outdoor terraces, surrounded by vineyards, adapt to weddings of very different sizes: from an intimate gathering of 80 to a full banquet for 260 guests. Chef Roberto Ruiz’s restaurant draws on local produce from the nearby Tolosa market, and couples can even spend their wedding night in a room at the winery itself.

Sutan

On the grounds of Bodega Hiruzta, on the slopes of Mount Jaizkibel near Hondarribia and surrounded by more than 17 hectares of vineyards, Sutan offers two distinct ceremony spaces: one facing the Peñas de Aia and another looking out over the vineyards. The venue seats up to 200 guests for a full celebration, or 300 for a standing cocktail, and the menu is built by the Txapartegi brothers of Restaurante Alameda, with vegan options available.

Real Golf Club de San Sebastián (Hondarribia)

An emblematic Basque farmhouse at the foot of Mount Jaizkibel, remodeled in the 1960s to house the golf club, this venue now offers halls with capacity for 50 to 400 guests across its banquet rooms, terrace and gardens, plus a dedicated space for civil ceremonies. It’s a good fit for larger celebrations (weddings under 80 guests aren’t hosted here) that still want a natural, green setting just outside the city.

Choosing the Right Venue for You

A few things worth thinking through as you compare these ten:

City or countryside. Palacio de Miramar, Hotel de Londres and Hotel María Cristina put you in the heart of San Sebastián, walking distance from the old town and La Concha beach: ideal if your guests are flying in and you want everything close together. Hotel Luze offers sea views just a short drive from the center. Katxiña, Hika, Rezabal, Sutan, Abeletxe and the Real Golf Club trade that convenience for vineyards, mountains and a slower pace, usually a short taxi ride from the city.

Guest count. For larger celebrations, Hotel María Cristina (up to 940 for a cocktail), the Real Golf Club (up to 400) or Hika (up to 260) have the most headroom. For something more intimate, Rezabal, Katxiña’s 100-guest hall, or a smaller gathering at Palacio de Miramar works well.

Season. May through September is generally the best window for good weather and long daylight hours, which matters most for outdoor ceremonies at Miramar, the wineries, Abeletxe and the golf club.

Logistics for international guests. Venues within the city let guests explore on foot between events. Countryside venues usually mean arranging transport, which is worth building into your day’s timeline early.
